To our friends of Standard Diner
Standard Diner opened in 2006 in an up and coming area of East Downtown, Albuquerque. At first our guests were not quite sure how to respond to our version of a “modern diner”. For our first two years we struggled to survive. Then we were fortunate enough to be featured on the Food Network’s popular show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in 2008.
That was the boost that we needed. Suddenly people realized that there was some good food at Standard Diner! That show saved us and up until today we still got people who came to our restaurant because of that show. Then came Covid! This global pandemic really took the wind out of our sails. Suddenly the area around Standard Diner became a ghost town. After four months we realized that we had to make some very tough decisions regarding our future and the future of restaurants moving forward. That tough decision meant closing our doors as Standard Diner on Monday, September 7 th , 2020.
Our restaurant is co-owned by the Range Café, an institution in Albuquerque area for the last 29 years. We knew we had a unique, beautiful building that deserved to continue as a restaurant. On Friday, September 11 th , 2020 we reopened our doors as The Range Café.
Several of our patrons responded in disappointment that the uniqueness of Standard Diner will be lost. The good news is that we have incorporated several of the Standard Diner favorites onto the Range Café menu, including the DDD Bacon wrapped meatloaf as featured on the show. As we move forward, and as we are able to rehire our staff we will include more menu items that were popular. Our goal is to not only save some of the unique menu items of Standard Diner but to also elevate the menu at Range Café.
We have several new additions to the building that will be opening in the future. Next door we have a space for a coffee shop and grab and go area. Next to that we will expand our lounge which will include live music, place to congregate and enjoy a snack or homemade dessert along with some unique and creative cocktails.
We are very excited by the future at 320 Central Ave SE and cannot wait to get back to service and hospitality as usual. We look forward to seeing you at the “new” Range Café.
